Chen Chuanduan(born 1994) employs imagery and text as his mediums, embarking from the documentary of personal emotions and experiences. His work focuses on the connection between humanity and nature, as well as the silent appeals within modern life. Fascinated by natural science and mysticism, he has a particular affinity for conveying the ineffable through fiction.
He was selected for TOP20·2019 Emerging Contemporary Chinese Photographers and the 3rd China Young Photographers Support Plan. His accolades include winning the 2024 Three Shadows Photography Award (TSPA), the 2024 Xiaomi & Leica Photography Awards Silver Medal in the Series Category, and the Tu Chong OPEN SEE Jury's Choice Award. He has independently published photobooks titled Restrained Orders, Belly of The Giant Serpent, and Restorative Topophilia. His photobook Belly of The Giant Serpent: Prophecy has been published and distributed by JZZP editions and P for Pinecone. In recent years, he has held solo exhibitions including Voice in the Wilderness(2019), Rootless Hymn(2022), and The Tacit Measure: Caves, Comets, and Dreams Uncollapsed(2025).
Chen graduated from Beijing Normal University in 2019 with a master's degree in Comparative Education. He currently works and lives as educator and visual artist in China.
